Description
Erythropodium caribaeorum is a hardy, photosynthetic encrusting gorgonian prized for its soft, feathery polyps and spreading growth.
This soft coral-like octocoral naturally carpets rockwork or other structures in a lush mat, creating movement in the aquarium flow. The colors of our Encrusting Gorgonians range from yellow/tan to beige/purple with subdued iridescence under aquarium lighting. With a bit of blues added in, the color appears as blush purple. They like moderate to high light and moderate to turbulent flow. Those conditions will ensure the polyps stay extended and healthy! As with other softies, keep it out of the reach of stony, aggressive corals. Be aware: similar to Pulsing Xenia or Green Star Polyps if left touching and unchecked, Encrusting Gorgonians can take over rocks and other corals.
Our current offerings are unique in that they are covering old gorgonian skeletons! You'll receive a sustainably collected specimen of Erythropodium caribaeorum, 3-4", hand-selected, already attached to a frag plug, and acclimated for aquarium success.
