Green Lace Gorgonian

Description

Pterogorgia citrina - (Green Lace Gorgonian)

Lace up your tank.

What You Get

The Green Lace Gorgonian (Pterogorgia citrina) is a photosynthetic gorgonian found in shallow Atlantic waters off Florida. Instead of thick rods or heavy branching, it forms narrow, flattened blades that twist, fork, and weave into a delicate, lace-like network—giving your reef a lightweight, airy silhouette.

Blade coloration typically ranges from tan–yellow to yellow-green, often accented with purple or darker edge markings. Polyps emerge along the flat surfaces, adding fine texture and subtle motion in the flow. This species can be clustered with others of its kind to build a natural “lace thicket” that moves as a unit under full-spectrum lighting.

Why It’s GORGeous

  • Signature form: Irregular lace-like blades that look unlike any other gorgonian species.
  • Colorful accents: Tan–yellow to green tones with purple edging or markings.
  • Photosynthetic: Thrives under strong reef lighting thanks to symbiotic zooxanthellae.
  • Movement: Thin, flexible blades flutter beautifully in moderate flow.
  • Versatile placement: Works along rock faces, in low-profile gaps, or grouped with its own species.

Sizing & Availability

Each Green Lace Gorgonian specimen arrives mounted on a reef plug and generally measures 4–7 inches in height. Blade width, branching style, and color variation differ naturally by collection site. Availability depends on conditions in shallow Atlantic habitats.

A Note from the Collectors:
Every gorgonian we offer is hand-collected, acclimated, and observed by our team before shipping. While we carefully try to remove algae, sponges, and tiny hitchhikers, it’s possible that a few “goodies” from the reef may tag along — it's a natural part of receiving genuine wild-collected specimens!

Photosynthetic gorgonians like Pterogorgia citrina may occasionally shed a thin outer layer as part of their natural maintenance. This temporary “peeling” process clears film and debris, after which blades often appear more vibrant and polyps extend more fully.

We ship via 2-Day service on Mondays and Tuesdays only to ensure specimens arrive healthy. Tracking information is provided as soon as your order ships.
