Description
Reef Rundown – Nassarius Snails (Nassarius vibex)
Why We Like Them:
Fast-moving sandbed scavengers that pop up from the sand almost instantly when food hits the water. Their behavior makes them one of the most entertaining members of a cleanup crew. We like to call them Zombie Snails!
Primary Use:
Sandbed cleanup and detritus removal. These nano Nassarius are especially useful in smaller systems or aquariums that need sand stirring but have a lot of rockwork.
Diet:
Feeds on leftover meaty foods, detritus, and organic debris. Nassarius Snails are scavengers and do not graze algae.
Where You'll See Them:
Most of the time they remain buried just beneath the sand surface with only their siphon visible. When food is detected, they quickly emerge and move across the sandbed.
Macroalgae Safe:
Yes. Nassarius Snails do not consume macroalgae.
Ease of Care:
Easy. Hardy and well suited for reef tanks, macroalgae systems, and aquariums with sandbeds.
Native Range:
Nassarius vibex occurs throughout the Western Atlantic and Caribbean. These specimens are collected from Florida waters and are much smaller than many Indo-Pacific Nassarius species.
