Seaweed Salad / Tubular Sea Lettuce

Description

Ulva intestinalis — Seaweed Salad / Tubular Sea Lettuce

Totally tubular — the reef’s salad bar.

What You Get

A bright green macroalga made of smooth, hollow tubes that sway in the current. Formerly known as Enteromorpha intestinalis, this species grows in small clusters attached to shells, rubble, mangrove roots, or other hard bottom. It’s both a favorite grazer snack and a vibrant addition to displays and refugiums.

Why It Is Algaesome

  • Beloved grazer buffet: Tangs, blennies, hermits, and snails eagerly devour it.
  • Total sushi vibes: Its smooth, slippery fronds give it the look of our favorite sushi side dish.
  • Nutrient export hero: Fast growth helps reduce excess nitrate and phosphate.
  • Adaptable and dependable: Thrives in a wide salinity range and various marine setups.

Sizing & Availability

You’ll receive several small clusters (typically 3–4), sometimes naturally attached to shells or rubble. Tube length, fullness, and color vary seasonally, as does availability. Growth is fast! Carpet your tank, harvest, or feed as desired.

Traits

Ease Easy
Classification Green Macroalgae
Nutrient Uptake High
Availability Seasonal
Use Refugium & Grazer Feeding
Lighting Moderate–High
Flow Low–Moderate
A Note from the Collectors:
Every macroalga we offer is hand-collected, acclimated, and observed by our team before shipping. While we carefully try to remove other algae, sponges, and tiny hitchhikers, it’s possible that a few “goodies” from the reef may tag along. It's a natural part of receiving genuine wild-collected specimens!

Many species may arrive paler or whitish in color. This is completely normal. Macroalgae shift their pigments inward during transport to protect from light and stress; color returns within a few days under good aquarium lighting and flow.

We ship via 2-Day service on Mondays and Tuesdays only to ensure specimens arrive healthy. You’ll receive a notification with tracking information as soon as your order ships.
